Los Gigantes is approximately 30 minutes drive from Tenerife South Airport. There are plenty of taxis from the airport and charge around €40 each way. Los Gigantes was declared a place of National Tourist Importance in the mid 1960’s, over the years it has developed into the ideal holiday destination, catering for all, couples, groups and families.
In Los Gigantes there are three leisure parks, where you can soak up the suns rays, swim, play tennis, golf and bowls. There is a small beach situated alongside the harbour or there is a larger beach located in Playa de la Arena, this can be reached by a 15 minute walk, or a short taxi ride from outside the Balcon Complex.
In Los Gigantes there are a host of activities for all to enjoy, facilities at the Marina include, self-drive boat hire, trips to see the resident dolphins and scuba diving. There is an array of restaurants where you can enjoy exquisite cuisine and either relax with family and friends or be entertained by top class cabaret acts. At the end of the evening for those not wanting to take a leisurely stroll back to their apartment, taxis are available and inexpensive.
Puerto
Santiago is next door to Los Gigantes, just a five minute stroll away, but
enjoys much more of a Canarian character than its cosmopolitan neighbour.
It over looks the fascinating old fishing harbour and small sandy beach. Every
July, at the harbour mouth, Puerto Santiago plays host to one of the island’s
most spectacular fireworks displays as part of the area’s main fiesta week.
The Canarians love their fiestas and they will use any excuse to stop work
for a day or two and go out and enjoy themselves. You may be lucky enough
to catch one of these fiestas taking place in the newly built plaza.
Puerto Santiago is also full of a wealth of little bars and eating establishments and its worth nipping along some of the side streets just to find somewhere a little different.
Tenerife
is the largest of the Canary Islands and lies in the Atlantic Ocean approximately
120 miles off the coast of north west Africa. Tenerife enjoys up to 11 hours
of sunshine in the summer months, which means it is sun-lovers paradise island.
The temperature in Tenerife averages 26 degrees centigrade with not much variation
throughout the year, making Tenerife the perfect getaway in the winter months
from those long dark and cold days of England. Whilst in Tenerife you will
find the volcanic landscapes quite dramatic on the south of the island or
if visiting the north of the island you will find lush sub-tropical vegetation.
There
are many activities to be enjoyed in Tenerife ranging from the most gentle
to the, sportiest including jeep safari’s, camel parks, tropical gardens,
the famous “Loro Parque” parrot park, Las Aguilas which features a spectacular
birds of prey show, a whale and dolphin trip is a must. For the sports minded
tennis, squash, horse riding, four golf courses including a 27 hole championship
course and of course all year round water sports. If none of that appeals
Tenerife is the perfect place to enjoy lazy days around the pool or at the
beach.
Mount
Teide’s highest point is the highest peak in Spain, it stands 3,717.91m above
sea level. The volcano is the third largest in the world, it last erupted
in 1898. A cable car is in operation (weather permitting), during the journey
you will witness breath taking views as you travel through the Pine Forests
and Lava Flows.
